Soaring Together: Building Care and Belonging at McKinney
During the 2025-26 school year we have continued working on our school-wide SEL goal of strengthening students’ sense of belonging and fostering a caring community.
At McKinney, we believe that when our eagles soar together, every feather matters. This year, we’ve taken intentional steps to help students care for themselves, others, and our shared spaces.
- Care for Self Assembly: We launched the year with an inspiring assembly focused on self-care strategies, helping students understand that strong wings start with a strong foundation. Many students shared examples of how they show care for themselves, and a student leader read us Ishi. Later, buddy classes extended the learning by doing group activities on caring for self.
Professional Learning: Our staff has engaged in ongoing Pro-D sessions to deepen their understanding of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and explore ways to embed these practices into daily routines. We have also changed our School Philosophy to: McKinney Cares for Self, Others, and Place.

- Eagle Feather Bulletin Board: To celebrate acts of care, we introduced a vibrant bulletin board where students add feathers to our school eagle whenever they demonstrate care for self, others, or place. Each feather represents a moment of kindness, responsibility, and community spirit—together creating a powerful symbol of unity.
Through these initiatives, we’ve been working hard to ensure every student feels valued, supported, and ready to soar. At McKinney, we know that when we care for ourselves and each other, our eagle community reaches new heights!
