Staff meet to explore Self-Regulation

McKinney Staff met as part of our Curriculum Implementation Day to delve into what we mean when we talk about self-regulation.  We considered various definitions of self-regulation and decided on a definition for our purposes.  It is as follows:

Self Regulation is the ability to identify, understand and monitor our own behaviour, emotions or thoughts and adapt them in a positive way to meet the situation.

We looked at Stewart Shankar’s description of the need for children and adults to respond to stressors associated with the following categories:  biological, emotional, cognitive, social, and pro-social.
