As we have shared, this year, we are switching gears and our School Story will focus us on Social Emotional Learning (SEL), anchored in communication and literacy. We brought back the S.O.A.R. acronym and are focused on the Personal/Social Core Competency so that all learners can: 

• Build their personal awareness and personal responsibility 

• Appreciate their personal and cultural identity 

• Build their social awareness and social responsibility 

In order to work toward these goals our SEL committee has planned 4 assemblies for the school year that will focus on the SOAR acronym. We had our S (Safety) assembly in September, and today we had our O (ownership assembly). Students shared what they learned during their Buddy-class activities that staff planned for the whole school to participate in.  Buddy classes read a book that had a them of taking ownership, and then students worked together to create a huge O with all of their ideas on how to show ownership at school and at home.  Students shared this learning at our O assembly today!
