Dear McKinney Elementary School Community,

 

It is almost time for back to school! We are all so excited to greet students and families to the vibrant McKinney community next week and get our 24-25 school year started. We hope this message finds you well and ready for another year of growth and learning!

 

School Starts on Tuesday, September 3rd:
The first day of school is right around the corner—September 3rd! We're looking forward to having all our McKinney Eagles back.

 

Important Schedule Details:
For students in Grades 1 to 7, the first day is a partial day, with a homeroom session from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. It's a chance to reconnect with peers and last year’s teacher. And then we will begin full days (8:45-2:45) on Wednesday, September 4^th.

 

Returning Students in Grades 1-7:
For the first week, all students will return to the classrooms they were in last year. As mentioned, this is a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with old friends and ease back into the school routine.

Please note the following exception:

·         Students that were in division 3 with go to room 1 (Ms. Dehnel’s room)

 

We anticipate moving into this year's divisions by Friday, September 6th. 

 

New Students:
To our new faces at McKinney Elementary, we extend a warm welcome! Please head to the school office upon your arrival. We will have a quick orientation for you in our library, where you'll be greeted by our friendly staff. Afterwards, you'll be shown to your homeroom for week 1.  We are so excited to meet our new Eagles! For the remainder of the week, they will meet in those new rooms until classes are confirmed and announced.

 

We anticipate moving into this year's divisions by Friday, September 6th. 

 

Kindergarten Students:
To our new Kindergarten students and families, please note that you will not attend the Grade 1-7 homeroom session on the first day. You should have received your gradual entry schedules and been notified which group your child is in and where to meet.  Please follow those plans. You should have also received a survey for you to fill out before your welcoming meeting.  If you have any questions, please contact us at the school. We are happy to help and cannot wait to welcome our new little Eagles!

 

Parents of Kindergarten Students:
On September 3rd, while your little ones are getting settled into their classes, our Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) will be hosting a "Meet and Greet" just for you. 

 

Important Absence Information:

Attendance is extremely important to us at the school. Please help us by calling in your child’s absence to our school phone lines.

 

Please make sure that you call the school at 604-668-6691 to let us know if your child will be absent at any time during the school year. An email can also be sent to mckinney@sd38.bc.ca.

 

If you won't be returning to McKinney Elementary this year, please let us know as soon as possible. We have a waitlist of eager students hoping to join our community, and your timely communication will help us make space for them. Thank you.

 

Returning Later than September 3rd:
If you'll be returning to school later than September 3rd and you haven't already informed us, please reach out as soon as possible.

Lastly, I wanted to say hi and introduce myself. My name is Gallit Zvi and I am the new principal of McKinney. I am very excited to be joining the McKinney community. I look forward to getting to know all of you and your children.
