McKinney Family Update - November 13, 2023

Dear McKinney Community,

As the vibrant festival of Diwali illuminates homes and hearts, we extend warm wishes to all those in our community who celebrate this joyous occasion. May the radiant light of Diwali bring you boundless joy, prosperity, and tranquillity. Diwali is not just a festival; it's a global celebration that unites millions of people in Canada and around the world.

In addition, we are thrilled to bring you exciting news about an upcoming PAC fundraiser with Neufeld Farms. It's an excellent opportunity to stock up on delectable meals, meats, pies, cookies, and more for the upcoming winter holiday season. Your participation in this fundraiser directly contributes to our goal of acquiring new playground equipment for McKinney Elementary. Your support is truly appreciated!

Hold and Secure drill - November 25th

On Wednesday, November 25th at 1:30 pm we have our Hold and Secure Drill. Please see the attached letter outlining the procedures and protocols. We encourage you to take a moment to speak with your child about the emergency drill. (district protocol and a letter to the families will be emailed)

Feeding Futures

Recently, the provincial government announced a new Feeding Futures School Program Fund, designed to assist schools in the development and enhancement of school meal programs and other nutritional supports for students.

If you would like to request support for your child at school, please reach out to Mr. G. Fitt, gfitt@sd38.bc.ca. We are gathering information and look to provide ongoing support wherever possible. Implementation plans are underway, and we want to ensure families are aware, and as always, able to reach out if they require support. All requests will be treated with dignity and your privacy will be respected. We want to work with families to ensure that your children have everything they need in order to be successful at school. Please do not hesitate to reach out if we can help.

K registrations and other Early Learning Programs offered by Richmond School District

If you have a child who is ready to join us for kindergarten in 2024-2025, please be sure to follow the link below:

Christmas Fund

In an effort to support families who could use a little more support through the winter holiday season, the Christmas Fund helps adult caregivers of children receive assistance. Please see the link below:

Extra Clothes

We are certainly seeing a change in weather. Please make sure your children are wearing the appropriate clothing for wet weather – rain boots and a waterproof raincoat. We highly encourage all students to have an extra pair of clothes in their backpacks should they get wet. It saves a phone call home and helps keep your child warm and dry.

Street Safety

We encourage all families to walk or bike to school as much as possible. Please use the designated crosswalk to help students learn about “road safety.” Please also park your car in designated street parking and walk the students to school.

Lost and Found Table

We have a lot of Lost and Found items at the front of the school office. Please be sure to have your child check the front table in case they have misplaced any clothing items.

Finally...

Thank you for being an integral part of the McKinney community and all that you do.
