McKinney Family Update - October 15, 2023

Dear McKinney Families,

We hope this newsletter finds you well and that the start of the school year has been both enjoyable and productive for your children. We have some exciting news and important information to share with you as we navigate through the month of October.

District Cross-Country Fun Run on Oct 17th, 2023: Don't forget to mark your calendars for the District Cross-Country Fun Run on Tuesday, October 17th at 3 p.m. The event will take place at Garry Point. Students who have submitted their permission forms to Ms. Hulyk and/or Ms. Debou are invited to participate. Please note that it is the responsibility of adult caregivers to arrange rides and supervision for your child, as there will be limited staff present on site. We encourage you to find safe parking and stay to cheer and motivate your children as they take part in this exciting Fun Run.

PAC MEETING:

PAC meeting on Monday, October 17th at 7 p.m. in the Library or via Zoom. The Zoom link will be sent out in an email.

Kindergarten Registrations and Early Learning Programs: For families interested in Kindergarten registrations and other Early Learning Programs offered by Richmond School District, we encourage you to register during the Priority 1 registration period, which runs from November to January. Registering during this time offers the best chance of securing a spot at your catchment school. All registration applications completed during Priority 1 registration will receive placement decisions via email from the school by February 2, 2024.

Parent-Teacher Conferences: On October 18th and 19th, students will be dismissed at 1:45 pm to facilitate Parent-Teacher Conferences. We kindly ask parents to sign up for these conferences to meet with your child's teacher. It's an excellent opportunity to discuss your child's progress and educational journey.

Medical Forms and EPI Pens: If you haven't already, please update verification and medical forms with the office. For children with medical alerts who carry EPI pens, kindly ensure that the school office has the most current information on hand.

Pumpkin Patch organized by PAC: Our Parent Advisory Council (PAC) has thoughtfully arranged a pumpkin patch visit for our students on Wednesday, October 25th. We'll be sharing more details with you next week, so stay tuned!

Extra Clothes: As the weather begins to change, please make sure your children are dressed appropriately for wet weather with rain boots and waterproof raincoats. We strongly encourage all students to carry an extra pair of clothes in their backpacks in case they get wet. This helps keep your child warm and dry and saves a phone call home.

Street Safety: We encourage all families to walk or bike to school whenever possible. Please use designated crosswalks to teach students about road safety. Also, be mindful to park your cars in designated street parking areas and walk your students to school.

Upcoming Dates: To stay up-to-date with important upcoming dates, please refer to the school calendar, accessible here.

We appreciate your ongoing support, and we're looking forward to a wonderful month of October filled with learning, fun, and community engagement.
