Looking Forward to a Wonderful Year!
The staff at McKinney welcomes all our students and families as we begin the 2022/23 school year. We hope you have enjoyed a fun and restful summer break and are as excited as we are for a great year. We are currently enrolling four hundred & three students. We are pleased to welcome back students and families and a special hello to those of you who are new to the McKinney community!
Welcome to New Staff
We are very excited and pleased to welcome several new staff members!
Meet the Teacher Night
We welcome all families to come to meet their child’s teacher on Thursday, September 22nd at 6:00 pm. There will be 2 sessions for Meet the Teacher at 6:00 PM and 6:15 PM.
All parents are automatically members of our Parent Advisory Committee. We encourage you to attend and hear about all the wonderful things that the PAC does to support student learning at McKinney.
The first PAC Meeting will be on September 29 at 7:00 pm in Library.
Electronic Communication from the School
Most of our communication from the office will continue to be electronic in the form of emails, electronic Week-At-A-Glance, and updates to our school website. Please make sure that we have your most up-to-date email address at the school office to ensure that you are receiving all the information. Please feel free to call us at the office if you have questions or concerns about this at 604-668-6133.
We are currently updating our student medical alert list and necessary documentation. If your child has an allergy or medical condition, please return the medical form provided to you. If you did not receive a form, please call the school office and let us know so we can get it to you as soon as possible.
September startup notices
We will send this home this coming week. This is a package of notices and permission forms regarding school supplies, walking field trips and your child’s verification form. Please complete these and return them at your earliest convenience.
Student Accident Insurance
As in previous years, families can choose to purchase an optional student accident insurance plan for their children through the “InsureMyKids®” program, underwritten by Old Republic Insurance Company of Canada. The “InsureMyKids®” accident insurance program offers protection against the potentially high costs of any injury resulting from unexpected accidents and is especially valuable for families who:
- do not have medical or dental plans,
- have limited plans, as it may help supplement health and dental benefits, or
- have active children who enjoy sports and outdoor activities.
The insurance agreement will be between the family and Old Republic Canada and will be effective on the date the enrollment application and payment are received by the insurance carrier. To purchase a student accident insurance plan, families can visit http://www.insuremykids.com, or speak with an Old Republic Canada customer service representative at 1-800-463-5437.

Please help your child come to school on time. The beginning of the day helps our learners know what to expect as teachers review their Shape of the Day. If your child is coming late, they must come to the front office first.
We also want to remind families that their children must be picked up on time. Unfortunately, we cannot care for your child after school as we have meetings to often attend at the end of the school day.
Lunches should be brought to school with your child at the beginning of the school day. Please be sure that your child has a spoon or fork as we do not have extra utensils.
Our learners go outside for recess and lunch, rain or shine. Please be sure to have your child come to school with the appropriate clothing depending on the weather. It never hurts to leave the second set of clothes at school.
Here’s to a great year of learning together.
